Dear Editor,

Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics (OBHMC) wants to thank everyone who cast a ballot in the recent special election. The District asked voters to consider a bond to improve access to local health care. The measure required 60% to win and failed by just five votes.

It’s bittersweet to be sure, but we are encouraged by the numbers. Almost 60% of voters saw the benefit of increasing access to health care for our rural community – and we are grateful.

Rural health care needs are real. Our community requires an Urgent Care Clinic and additional space to attract specialty providers so residents don’t have to travel long distances for basic procedures. Patient rooms, the pharmacy and nurses’ station at the hospital require renovations. Medical equipment needs replacing to provide the most current diagnostics.

These are some of the projects that would be funded by the bond. The Board of Commissioners has approved placing the measure on the August 1, 2023 primary election ballot. We encourage you to learn more at www.oceanbeachhospital.com/bond and always welcome your questions.

Sincerely,

Scot Attridge, CEO
