Ocean Beach Occupational Therapy

Ocean Beach Occupational Therapy provides one-on-one treatment for patients in an outpatient setting. All treatments are based on goals chosen by the client/family and occupational therapist and reflect an evidence-based approach. Our goal is to return each client to their daily activities by helping them recover from an injury or illness or to live better with an injury or illness.

Occupational therapists use a holistic approach in which the client is an important member of their rehabilitation. Our treatments are focused on improving our client’s ability to do their daily activities. Reassessments are completed to ensure progress toward goals and to facilitate changes to treatment if needed.

Common areas addressed by occupational therapy include:

  • Neurological conditions (stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, cognitive impairment, visual-perceptual problems)
  • Difficulty with daily living activities
  • Fall prevention/mobility challenges
  • Orthopedic hand conditions including post-operative conditions, carpal tunnel and arthritis
  • Chronic pain
  • Splinting
  • Hand/wrist/elbow orthopedic conditions

Special programs

Post-concussion rehabilitation

Our occupational therapist works with clients recovering from a concussion. Our focus is on addressing problems with vision and tolerating daily activities. The occupational therapist will develop a treatment plan to help you recover and gradually return to your normal routine. To ensure our client’s needs are met, the occupational therapist will work closely with your medical team, including your physician, optometrist, other rehabilitation team members and other specialists as needed.

Saebo Flex

Saebo Flex is a functional orthosis (brace) that can help clients recovering from a stroke to learn to use their arm and hand again. Our occupational therapist is certified in the use of this device and will help to fit you and train you in the use of this device for home and in the clinic.

Acute care/swing bed

Our occupational therapist works with patients receiving care in the hospital to improve their ability to complete their activities of daily living (bathing, toileting, grooming and dressing). If needed, occupational therapy will also help individuals to be able to manage other everyday activities in the home including cooking and housekeeping. Our focus is on activities our patients need to do and want to do. We use these activities to improve our patient’s strength, flexibility, endurance and ability to get around. We are an important part of the discharge planning process including determining and improving a person’s cognitive (thinking) capacity for caring for themselves. Our goal is to work with our patient and their family or caregiver so they may safely return home or to the next level of care
