Nutrition education and counseling

Ocean Beach Hospital has a registered dietitian on staff who provides one-on-one patient counseling, community health education, and diabetes support services. Nutrition information and education can help people to better manage chronic conditions as well as improve their overall health. People living with hypertension, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and cardiovascular conditions can benefit, as well as those seeking to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Nutrition counseling is often covered by insurance when accompanied by a referral that is related to a specific medical condition. In other cases, individuals can pay out-of-pocket for general nutrition counseling.

It is often helpful for people to bring a support person (someone who influences what types of food are brought into the home) to an appointment with a dietitian.

Onsite food services

Our dietitian and our food service manager create patient menus, and our dietary staff creates menus for our Hospital Cafe, where breakfasts, soups, salads, sandwiches, and full meals are prepared fresh daily and available on a self-serve basis. Employees, visitors and other guests may dine at the Hospital Café, or take items to go.

Complementary coffee is available from the Hospital Cafe, as well as in the lobby and the family waiting area near the surgery department.
