What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?
Ocean Beach Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program provides intensive exercise training, monitoring, education and emotional support for patients and family members recovering from heart disease. One of the major sources of stress facing heart patients is the uncertainty of the future. Patients often ask, “Will I be able to live a normal life?” Our multi-therapy, Phase II Cardiac program, led by Dr. Albert Fabiano and Rehabilitation Director Dan Burns, helps patients safely increase their physical fitness and return to a healthy, active life.Patients also develop the skills to make important behavioral changes that improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of future heart complications.
Who Needs Cardiac Rehabilitation?Almost anyone with heart disease can benefit from cardiac rehabilitation. Our program is ideal for patients with the following conditions:
- Heart attack
- Bypass surgery
- Heart valve replacement
- Chest pain/angina
- Stent implants
- Heart transplant
- Coronary atherectomy
How Does the Program Work?
Our state-of-the-art facility features a full compliment of exercise and monitoring equipment, including treadmills and eliptical cycles. We provide a supervised environment staffed by professionals trained in cardiac and emergency care. Each rehabilitation plan is custom designed and includes the personal attention of one-on-one training that meets the individual’s specific needs and goals. By incorporating exercise with education, we help patients more fully understand the recovery process and learn how to take the steps necessary to rebuilding a healthier, independent lifestyle.
How Long is the Program?Individual programs are 12 weeks and include three weekly 45-minute sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A physician’s referral is required to enter the program. We perform a comprehensive preprogram assessment that includes exercise and cholesterol testing. A cardiac stress test, which we perform at our facility, may also be needed before starting the program. The stress test helps to accurately diagnose and develop treatment plans for heart disease.
Does Insurance Cover the Cost?
